'Cinema, Mon Amour', one of the recent outstanding Romanian documentaries, will have its London premiere at our Romanian Cinematheque. The film is an homage to a life spent in a cinema and a life lived (literally and metaphorically) through cinema.

'Cinema, Mon Amour follows the story of Victor Purice - manager, former projectionist and lifetime cinephile - and his two loyal employees, Cornelia & Lorena, in their everyday battle to preserve Dacia Panoramic Cinema in Piatra Neamț, one of the last remaining cinemas in Romania today. A sweet portrait of a profession, passion and nostalgia in an Herculean fight to preserve a culture!' (Edinburgh International Film Festival)

Dear Madam,
Dear Sir,

At its 523rd plenary session, held on 22 and 23 February 2017, the European Economic and Social Committee adopted the following opinion, available in all language versions:

The EESC welcomes the New Skills Agenda for Europe. However, it wishes to see more innovative solutions in the fields of education and skills development, as Europe needs a genuine paradigm shift in the goals and functioning of the education sector. The EESC considers that helping individuals to acquire a minimum set of skills is not enough, and that it is crucial to ensure that a Skills Guarantee becomes a guaranteed pathway that enables people to advance and reach the highest achievable level of skills. The Committee calls for more focus on social and gender perspectives, non-formal and informal learning and entrepreneurship as a life skill. It also regrets the lack of new financing to back up the Agenda and encourages more dialogue with organised civil society.

Yours sincerely,

Pavel Trantina

President of the Section for
Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship
(SOC)
Chère Madame,
Cher Monsieur,

Pavel Trantina
